Francis changed his name to WINTER from Higgins when he married Rosabelle

NOTE   Two stories were told as the reason for the surname changing:

[1]    He came to Western Australia from South Australia with his sister but wanted to get away from her, as she was wanting money, so he changed his  name to Winter [as it was winter time].

[2]     The family would not accept their mother's 2nd husband, Rur Singh a wealthy Indian plantation owner, and changed their name to Winter after her marriage in 1906.

Marriage 1 Note:  Consent to marry was given by Mr G.J. Hayes, JP, to J.E.F. Winter in the absence of any Legal Guardian in W.A. Witnesses at the marriage were:- Joseph Burgess and Ada Alice Burgess

Joe was a  Blacksmith when his daughter Beryl was born.  A Motor Engineer when Beryl married, he had a garage in Claremont and later Corrigin

He was also a Chief Engineer at the Sons of Gwalia Mine, Western Australia during his 2nd marriage.

Marriage 2 Note:   Emily Victoria Mabel MORGAN   is buried at Karrakatta with Harold Thomas Morgan (son from her first marriage).
