Beryl and Claude’s
marriage was witnessed by Beryl's sister Mrs Nellie Smith and
J.A. Morgan (3 years later he was Nellie's 2nd husband).
Claude Vincent on 26 January 1901 was admitted to Clontarf Boys
Home, register no. 117. He was sent to Clontarf from the "Boys'
Orphanage, Subiaco" being sent there from the Women's Home Perth
by Mr James Longman, Inspector of Charities. The admission forms
reads:- Claude Vincent was destitute, in good health and had
received no education. His father's name is unknown and his
mother is dead. He was discharged from Clontarf on the 26
January 1909 and sent to a farmer in the Katanning district for
4years. In 1916 he enlisted in WWI.

Vincent, 44th Battalion, enlisted 1 May 1916, returned to
Australia on 31 July 1918.
After the war he returned to Clontarf and taught carpentry for
some years. While there he made a wooden boat and use to take
some boys fishing on the Canning River. Not having much luck
catching fish, one day he threw some explosives in the water and
nearly blew the boat up.
CLONTARF: situated on the banks of the Canning River, 5 miles
south-east of Perth in an area of 500 acres of parklands. The
1st orphanage in Subiaco was founded in 1876 by Dr Gibney,
Catholic Bishop of Perth. It closed in 1901 when Clontarf was
opened.
Claude was admitted to Clontarf as Claude Vincent. On his
marriage certificate as Claude Stanley Vincent. On his
enlistment & death it has Claude Stanislaus Vincent
ref and photos; Sheryl Knight
