William was a soldier in the British Army. He arrived at Fremantle (?) on 22/2/1847 on the "Java". He was a Private in the 96th Regiment stationed at Rottnest in 1847. He was discharged in May 1849. By 1850 he was a butcher in Fremantle. He moved to Perth and was listed in the 1859 Census as a Sawyer with two servants. He moved to Vasse (Bunbury area) and was a farmer in 1870. He employed a Ticket of Leave man at Capel in 1866. He was C of England and was literate. Ellen arrived in Fremantle on the "Sophia" on 22/7/1850. Shipping records record her as Ellen Boyle; Age 20 years, A servant from Dorset. She is listed as Ellen Bayte on marriage records
