He joined in 1940 at 16 years. His army birth date is 14 Feb 1921. Harold seems to have lowered his age to join up as he is listed as born 10 Sep 1905 upper age limit to join the AIF was 35. This born out by men born in 1905 were the 7th highest in numbers of all age groups to enlist.
